Overview
Are you caught up in work all the time, with little or no time to relax? Do you need a change of scenery but can't get away from your deadlines? Do you love Italy but can't take enough time off for a holiday?
Then this workation just might be for you!
In the historic town of Padula, province of Salerno, about two hours away from Naples, sits the largest Carthusian Monastery of Europe, called the Certosa of San Lorenzo. Padula traces its roots back to the bronze age where the first settlers occupied nearby caves, through the ancient times of Magna Graecia and the Roman empire, all the way to the unification of Italy in 1861-1871 and the present day. Both the current town and the Certosa were founded in the 11th century AD and feature stunning architectural details, spanning centuries of organic growth and development.
The Certosa is not only a museum, but also a popular location for events, and it hosts a number of businesses and non-profits. One of those is an initiative of local entrepreneurs and enthusiasts wanting to provide a place for all those who want a break from their daily life in the big city and corporate offices. It provides a relaxing and fun working environment where you can connect with your home base, your clients and your colleagues, while enjoying the beauty and peace of small-town rural Italy.
As for accommodation, you can stay in town, share a house with fellow workationers, stay in one of the local hotels or, if you come with your team, stay in the nearby Franciscan convent. E-bikes are available for rent to help you venture out into the valley and neighbouring towns. On your time off from work, you can try one of the beautiful hikes near town or rent a car to visit the nearby Policastro bay for a dip in the Mediterranean, or one of the cold springs in the Cilento National Park. You can go on an organized hike, ride a horse or attend a cooking workshop. There are so many things to see and do that you'll wish you had more time!
